I saw some job statistics for PHP on x.com and overall job statistics on hh.ru. I haven't coded in PHP for several years (and haven't worked in the CIS market for just as long), but I used to write most of my code in it.
There's a lot of talk about a crisis, and here's a sobering visualization of its scale: PHP job listings have decreased fivefold over four years, and Go listings have dropped threefold in the same period. Overall, the trend is negative for any language.
With PHP, aside from the general crisis, the situation is also fueled by the AI boom—now any old monolith can be rewritten in another language using models, provided you have credits on your account. This can significantly improve performance, reduce lines of code, and simplify the codebase.
I saw a tweet somewhere suggesting that one day we'll wake up and there won't be any job listings on sites anymore: why sift through 10,000 resumes for one position when a developer or manager already working at the company can bring in someone they know and whose experience they can vouch for? And instead of 200 engineers, 20 would suffice, who don't write code by hand but manage a bunch of agents. And it seems that day is getting closer.
